![]() My recording set-up is very basic. I will try to discuss each tool and their actual purposes. SHEET MUSIC Most of the time, I arrange the song and write it down first before proceeding to a recording session. I guess it is way harder for me to play then write it down afterwards. I don't usually memorize songs that's why I have the music in front of me. MUSIC STAND It holds the sheet music. GODIN LA PATRIE COLLECTION (w/ Quantum pick-ups) I started using this around April 2013. It has built-in pick-ups. The sound is pretty neat and warm. I always love the cedar-rosewood combination. ERGOPLAY TAPPERT This usually elevates the guitar but without using the traditional footstool or raising my leg. I had some shoulder pain problems and this guitar support cured it somehow. A very cool tool. G7th PERFORMANCE CAPO One of my favorite tool. It actually dictates the feel and the tone of my arrangement as it changes the key of a song in a snap. KODAK PLAYTOUCH HD videocamera. One thing I like about this tool is that it has a wide angle lens. The video quality is decent and you could also connect an external microphone to it. I used it on one of my tutorials (Chords). It is always mounted on a Gorilla Pod. M-AUDIO FAST TRACK PRO Audio Interface I plug my guitar here then it connects to the laptop via usb. This audio interface disables the built-in soundcard of the computer and acts as the main soundcard. This unit also eliminates noise, hum and static sounds during recording. M-AUDIO AV30 monitor speakers It's so nice to hear what you play during recordings. I love the sound of these speakers. It feels like it always tells the truth, a very honest sound. LAPTOP w/ Adobe Audition 6 I'm using a Macbook Pro laptop and I installed the Adobe Audition to it. Adobe Audition is my main recording software. I mix and edit all my sound files here. With regards to sound effects, I only use default presets of EQ, compressor and reverb. *** During recording sessions, I basically do simultaneous recordings of Kodak Playtouch (video) and Adobe Audition (audio). Afterwards, I will syncronize the output files using iMovie. Then render the video in HD format and upload it to my Youtube channel. Very basic. Basic is fun. Fun is guitar. © 2013 Lex Von Sumayo TEST 1 TEST 2 TEST 3

© 2011 Lex Von Sumayo ![]() medyo mahirap Hello guitar lovers!
All in all, sanayan lang din. Minsan, it would take hours, days or even weeks just to figure out the melody. Very painstaking but I guess that's how it should be. :) Enjoy arranging! 'Til then. Thanks and happy arranging! DOWNLOAD your FREE sheet music here : ![]()
© 2011 Lex Von Sumayo ![]() take it easy The question is, "Why using a Capo on solo guitar arrangements?" Perhaps you already noticed that I'm always using this magic thingy on most of my solo guitar stuffs. Here are some of the reasons: (1) Matching the Right Key of the Song. Since the friendly guitar keys are C, G, D, Am and Em, I have to analyze the melody range and the chords progressions and figure out if it fits the first position. For example, the original key of a given song is in the key of E. So, it's either I clip the capo on the 2nd fret and play in the key of D or stick it up to the 4th fret and play in the key of C. Another example would be a song in the key of A. The easiest thing to do is to play in the key of G with a capo on the 2nd fret. Or sometimes a song that is already a friendly key (i.e. key of C) played in the key of G but capoed on the 5th fret. (2) Easy Transitions for Both Melody Lines and Chord Shapes. As mentioned previously, the friendly keys would and should dominate your analysis. Sometimes, I just ignore the original key and position the capo anywhere and play everything in the key of G. I love this key so much! I think it is the easiest key of all. (3) Minimize String Resonance. If I play without a capo, I'm kinda hearing overtones and it just freaks me out. So, by clipping a capo, it somewhat reduce a bit of the string resonance and it keeps the melody and chord transitions smooth. --- Capo is not a cheat. It is the smartest solution to some difficult guitar situations. Get one and enjoy! © 2011 Lex Von Sumayo |
